Re: Which chess engine is using Chess Buddy ?
Last time I checked, Chessbuddy uses a chess engine called "tao" (written by Bas Hamstra from the Netherlands), and a very limited opening book(564 Kb).
You can use very much any UCI engine with chessbuffy ( I mean .... chessbuddy), but you are still limited to the tao oppening book.
Note: Tao 5.6 has an estimated ELO of 2569.
Cheers,

- It is useless, nothing is gained (how can one be proud of a score earn with dishonesty?)
- You will be baned, sooner or later,

Re: Which chess engine is using Chess Buddy ?
Actually, Chess Buddy uses an engine called "VCYin54" now. I can't say that it's a very strong engine, but not bad either.
Matematiko is right, Chess Buddy uses a very limited book, and it can't be changed unfortunately, but loading different engines into it is fortunately possible. To do this, you should copy your engine to the C:/Program Files/Chess Buddy Yahoo/Engine folder. After that, open your program, go to Program Options and mark the "Use another engine" option, then select the engine you copied into your Chess Buddy Yahoo folder. You can mark the "Make it default engine" option if you want it to be your main engine.
What's interesting is that you can use 64-bit Engines with Chess Buddy even if you don't have a 64-bit CPU and a 64-Bit Operating System.

You can download TAO here http://www.chessbase.com/download/engin ... %20tao.exe
After launching the self extracting exactutable, the name of file that contains the engine is VCYin54.exe . So I guess we both are rigth m.t_mode.
Thanks for the aditional info in how to set up different engines under chessbuffy (grrrrrrrrr.... chessbuddy I mean).

Everything is out there in the net. "If you search, you'll find", "El que busca, encuentra". "Will is Power", "Querer es poder". Most of us learn by trial an error, and by searching, and sharing ideas and finds like we do here in this forum.

Re: Which chess engine is using Chess Buddy ?
This is the best explanation elcriollito, thank you for that. Guys, I can suggest you to load Rybka 2.3 into it, because its default engine is really weak.

Re: Which chess engine is using Chess Buddy ?
Then what's lacking is a good book
