This is a tutorial for all that wants to make 2 bin books play in winboard GUI.
1st - You need winboard program, 2 polyglot.exe and 2 polyglot.ini
*To not mess up your folders I recommend make one folder only to test your bins with all files you need.*
After you install winboard in your computer have inside winboard folder this files I circled in the picture:
- Then open your 2 poly ini files and edit them to use the bin books you want. Each poly will use a specific book.
- Now send the winboard.exe to your desktop as shortcut like the picture shows:
- Go to desktop and right click in the winboard shortcut you just sent and edit the target line like this in properties:
C:\Arquivos de programas\WinBoard-4.2.7\winboard_x.exe /zp /ics /fcp="polyglot.exe polyglot.ini"/scp="poly.exe poly.ini"
Attention here, it is according to my path...
Look pic:
- Save and finally 2x click and select like picture:
- 1st will play white and 2nd will play black, after the quantity of games you want for the book play white, just switch names of the books in both poly.ini and start again
- To start the games go in Mode Option in winboard >>> Two Machines....
PS pictures show my Portuguese configuration but the basic is the same

Re: How To Make 2 Bin Books Match
Additionally, in the engine section of each polyglot.ini, you can specify the maximum number of CPUs.
If you have a dual, select only one CPU per engine
If you have a quad, select only two CPUs per engine
This way the CPUs wont be working at the same time for the same engine, and the results should be more realistic.
Cheers,
If you have a dual, select only one CPU per engine
Code: Select all
[engine]
Hash = 128
Max CPUs=1
Code: Select all
[engine]
Hash = 128
Max CPUs=2
Cheers,
Using engines to cheat:
- It is not ethical,
- It is useless, nothing is gained (how can one be proud of a score earn with dishonesty?)
- You will be baned, sooner or later,
- It gives us (the true chess engine players) a bad reputation.
